Build an application with a clear direction.

Start with the decision, not the documents

Applicants often begin by editing a CV or drafting a motivation letter. The stronger starting point is the decision behind the application: why further study, why now, why this subject and what should become possible afterwards?

Your documents should give compatible answers. If the CV points towards one career, the letter promises another and the interview introduces a third, the problem is not wording. It is positioning.

A five-part application framework

1. Starting point: what you have studied, done and learnt.
2. Trigger: what exposed a meaningful gap or opportunity.
3. Programme: which specific elements help close that gap.
4. Next step: a realistic post-Master direction.
5. Contribution: what perspective you will add to the cohort.

Replace claims with evidence

“I am passionate about finance” is a claim. A relevant course, internship, project, investment club or independent analysis is evidence. You do not need a spectacular achievement for every point, but each important claim should have a reason to be believed.

• Use projects to show intellectual interest.
• Use choices to demonstrate commitment.
• Use results, feedback or progression to establish impact.
• Use reflection to show self-awareness.

Research the actual programme

Generic praise about rankings, reputation or an international environment can fit dozens of schools. Select two or three programme features and explain what you would do with them. Modules, teaching format, clubs, projects, exchanges and career pathways matter only when connected to your goal.

Final consistency check

• Can a reader describe your direction after two minutes?
• Is “why now” explicit rather than implied?
• Are your goals ambitious but credible from your starting point?
• Does every document use the same core facts?
• Could you defend every sentence naturally in an interview?
